Just as sad as the Mormon sponsorship of this bill is the fact that, in the year Obama wins the presidency, a population who knows a little something about what it's like to be exploited--African Americans-- supported Prop 8 in record numbers.
...also a little ironic to consider that not all that long ago Mormons were driven to Mexico because of their partner preferences in marriage. Mormons are the reason this piece of hate and ignorance passed. I'm embarrassed for them. Embarrassed for me because my name IS still on the rolls.
I miss you guys. Love what you've done with the place HH!
Shane I, too, was surprised that the black population lead the way to passing this piece of legislative theism. Apparently the "beat-up" often need to find victims of thier own.
Shelly,
Howdy! How lovely to hear from you. That you are wise enough to blush is evidence of contrition. I guess it will have to do. *wink*
Your latest comment on my blog was wonderful. Thank you. The holidays are not the same for me without your immediate and extended family. In fact, just the other day I was telling someone about Christmas at Linda's place, with her dancing Santas and immaculate photo albums and chocolate mints - surrounded by the love and incredible generosity of the whole family. And I'll never forget Mikayla's custom-made gift for me one year.
The Church's stance on gay marriage reminded me of a 1947 letter by a previous First Presidency, where interracial marriage was condemned:
“There is a growing tendency...toward the breaking down of race barriers in the matter of intermarriage between whites and blacks, but it does not have the sanction of the Church and is contrary to Church doctrine.”

Please write something else on your blog soon. :)

Good grief.
